There is such a poignancy about your haiku especially accompanying the photo of the empty chair. Of course, I project and remember so many people I used to beach with and now see no more.
By the way, I saw Ape House on your book list and for some reason I couldn't get into it. I'll have to try again as I loved Water for Elephants so much.
