postcards from paradise: mostly i have been staying home

yesterday it did hail in my front yard
and
each hailstone
was as big as an Olive
{{ white rather than green }}

right now as i type this
the sky is rumbling again
{{ giants bowling in the heavens }}

meanwhile
mostly i have been staying home

make some*thing
out of no*thing
which is what i like to do

on days when i MUST shop
i buy art*supplies
and fabric and food
{{ in that order of Importance }}

i bet your are the same way

when the days are short
-------> dark and dark and darker still
most all the damn*day <-------
i just want to nest~in with tea
and campari

beleive me
i do know what paradise is
when the short days Rule
and the long rains Fall

postcards from paradise: a time spent with old girl friends

nothing says Paradise to me
more than spending time
with old friends
& two of my dearest live nearby
in my favorite ballroom
where i did take you many many years ago ...

yes yes yes !!
here are 2
of my oldest girl friends ...
both of whom
i have known my entire life thus far!!

i present to you miss Spring
who tends to be shy !!

Spring always &
without fail !!
wears flowers in her hair
which i find so charming, don't you ??
{{ a real flower*child even before the 1960s !! }}

I tell Spring my deepest secrets
& she never tells a single soul !!

Spring knew when i was Truly in Love
even before i did myself
{{ each & every time }}

right down here 
in the same neighborhood
lives my old friend Cleopatra ...

not so shy is my Cleo !!
~~she had such a Knowing Look~~
i never told her a thing
i did not want repeated ...

when i was
a great deal younger
i thought Cleo was Mighty Bold
for someone wearing
a chicken~hat on her head ...

later i found out
it was not a chicken~hat at all
but by that time
friends*ship parameters had been set
{{ although i do try not to judge }}

plus, dear Cleo came here from italy,
by way of egypt,
which thrilled me beyond measure ...

when i was an impressonable teenager
Cleo became my Super*Hero
with her smooth but strong shoulders ...

i liked how Cleo seemed to know
exactly
what to do with Spinx
{{ i would have no idea, myself }}

Cleo always dressed
in such a brazen manner !!
i have admired
her devil~may~care attitude my entire life ...

down the ballroom to the east
is where i keep my throne ...
{{ that is young mr. mercury
on the right who keeps
a vigilant eye on things }}

yes yes yes
time well~spent with old girl friends !!
hope you enjoyed meeting them...

I had it in my mind to make it on Thursday.
Not this past Thursday, or the one before THAT
but the Thursday waaay gone by...

But Life has been zoooooming past me
what with Hurricane Issac,
The Big Plumbing Flood in my house
and then flying to Vermont...

Then there were the concerts:
Blondie, Devo, Stevie Nicks...

blah blah blah

Yep, they told me this would happen...

Isn't life grand!
before you know it Wee babies are walking,
Medium babies are starting school
and
Older babies are graduating from high school...

I am like a kid over here in my Own World.
Easily distracted by Google, Bing & Nature.

"Wow, oh, wow!" I exclaim
nearly stepping on some unknown bug in my front yard.
"Must go look up that little insect and learn her name!"

Whilst in the kitchen squeezing fresh OJ
I spot some forgotten spice peeking out
from behind the Sri Lankan curry blend.

"Wow, oh, wow!" I exclaim
thinking I should whip up something special for supper.
"Must go look up a new recipe on the lap-top!"

Anyhow.
I cannot stay focused over here for very long
due to enjoying Life so much.
Enjoying Life and Nature and Technology
and Art~making and so on
so much.

this is my beach

the beach from my childhood

and the beach from my now

in all manner of weather i love this place

i can sit & look at the sea for hours on end

i can sit & stare at the changing sky

i can look down & see my sandy toes
& pretend i am still young

my beach holds romantic memories

my beach shelters lonely times

my beach is wide with possiblities

from this porch
i have dreamed of foreign lands

on this beach my heart was broken & repaired,
time & time again

a beach to learn from & play on & to remember

fine friendships & true love grew here

i walked early mornings on this beach with my dad
{{ which seems like 100 years ago
or
maybe it was yesterday }}

i made castles in the sand with sister & cousins

and today i am sharing it with you.

Me neither,
but I was expecting this package as I was the surprised & happy
winner of a contest over here.

Well, it turns out the package, which I was so fortunate to win,
was delieved to the wrong mailbox by a Substitute Mailman.

The Substitute Mailman,
unfamiliar with the quirky ways of our neighborhood,
put my winning package in the mailbox
of the lady down the street
who was world*traveling but finally, finally
the sweet package made its way to me...

I have enjoyed Jane's website, all the luck in the world,
for the longest time and she never even knew me,
which is the way sometimes in the big blogging world.

Sometimes we crush on artists who live way far, far away
but then Life has a way of pulling people together
sometimes if we are fortunate
which happens to me with appreciated regularity!

{{ I do hope this happens to you sometimes
where you are lucky enough
to connect with your art*crushes... }}

When I think of recycled vintage design,
which is often as I frequently attempt to repurpose old things,
I think of Jane
and her arty, inspirational ways
and it makes me smile HUGE.

I never dreamed Jane would one day be sending me little birds,
somepinkflowers and happiness, too!
